(By IANS November 7, 2022) At the launch of the ILSS Emerging Women’s Leadership Program in New Delhi, Das, however, spoke about her short film “Listen to Her”.

અભિનેત્રી અને દિગ્દર્શક નંદિતા દાસ, મહિલા કલ્યાણ અને જેંડર વિશે કાર્યરત છે, તેમણે તેમની ટૂંકી ફિલ્મ "લિસન ટુ હર" વિશે નવી દિલ્હીમાં ILSS ઇમર્જિંગ વિમેન્સ લીડરશીપ પ્રોગ્રામના લોન્ચિંગ સમયે વાત કરી.

Nandita Das shot the film, which, like “Zwigato“, also revolves around the theme of the complexities of life under Covid-induced lockdowns, at home with her son Vihaan and it zeroes in on the issue of women being overburdened while staying back and facing domestic violence to boot.

નંદિતા દાસની આ ફિલ્મ પણ “ઝ્વિગાટો”ની જેમ, કોવિડ-પ્રેરિત લોકડાઉન હેઠળના જીવનની જટિલતાઓની આસપાસ પણ ફરે છે,  પુત્ર વિહાન સાથે ઘેર રહેતી તેણી મહિલાની પાછળ રહી તેણીએ વેઠવા પડતાં વધુ પડતા બોજ અને ઘરેલુ હિંસાની વાત કરે છે

 “One fine morning, I woke up and read this newspaper article about how women are being overburdened during the lockdown. And I am talking about the privileged class, who are attending zoom meetings and taking care of their kids and what is being cooked at home,” Das said, unspooling her memories of how the idea for the film germinated.

“એક સરસ સવારે, હું જાગી ત્યારે લોકડાઉન દરમિયાન મહિલાઓ પર કેવી રીતે વધુ બોજ પડી રહ્યો છે તે વિશે અખબારનો આ લેખ વાંચ્યો. હું વિશેષ વર્ગની મહિલાઓ વિશે વાત કરી રહી છું, જેઓ ઝૂમ મીટિંગ્સમાં હાજરી આપે છે, બાળકોની સંભાળ રાખે છે અને અને આજે જમવાનું શું બનાવીશું તેની ચીંતા પણ કરે છે.

Nandita Das, explain how she shot the entire short film at home. “I didn’t even have a tripod. I had no filming equipment. So, just with my phones, and I had two phones — one phone to shoot and the sound rolling in the other, which I would give to my cook. And so that seven-page story I wrote one morning, was shot by the next,” Das recalled.

નંદિતા દાસે,  સમજાવ્યું. “મારી પાસે ટ્રાયપોડ પણ નહોતું. ફિલ્માંકન ના કોઈ સાધન પણ નહોતા. ફક્ત મારા થી, મારી પાસે બે ફોન હતા - એક શૂટ કરવા માટેનો ફોન અને બીજામાં સાઉન્ડ રોલિંગ માટેનો. જે મારા રસોઈયાને આપ્યો હતો. અને આમ મેં એક સવારે લખેલી સાત પાનાની વાર્તા, બીજા દિવસે શૂટ કરી હતી,”

 “It is just a little story about two women when there wasn’t another woman around. The rest are all voices. And there is a male voice. A lot of people asked me where Ali Fazal was sitting. And I was like, ‘No, he wasn’t in my bedroom’

 “તે બે સ્ત્રીઓ વિશેની એક નાની વાર્તા છે જ્યારે આસપાસ બીજી સ્ત્રી ન હતી. બાકીના બધા અવાજો છે. અને ત્યાં એક પુરુષ અવાજ છે. ઘણા લોકોએ મને પૂછ્યું કે અલી ફઝલ ક્યાં બેઠો છે..? અને હું, 'ના, તે મારા બેડરૂમમાં નહોતો'.
