रीमा दास ने फिल्म निर्माण के विषय में न तो कोई तालीम ली है, और फिल्म जगत में ना
ही कोई उनका गोद्फाधर है. ‘गोरिला निर्माण पध्धति’ और सिमित संसाधनों को लेकर बनी
यह फिल्म बनने की कहानी ही अपने आप में एक अजूबा सी मालूम होती है. छोटे से DSLR
केमरा और आसपास के बच्चों के
साथ बनी यह फिल्म Independent फिल्म मेकिंग की एक मिशाल है. कल जब मैंने यह
न्यूज़ सुनी तब से मैं अपने आपको रोक नहीं पा रहा हूँ. क्युकी मैंने भी ऐसी ही
निर्माण पध्धति और सिमित संसाधनों के साथ गुजराती फीचर फिल्म ‘छोटू २ कटिंग’
बनायीं है. आर्थिक कारणों के चलते हम यह फिल्म सेंसर नहीं करवा पा रहे है. इसलिए
इस फिल्म को सिनेमाघर तक ले जाने का तो इस वक्त सवाल ही नहीं है. हो सकता है कुछ
समय बाद हमारी गुजराती फीचर फिल्म ‘छोटू २ कटिंग’ डिजिटल प्लेटफोर्म पर रिलीज़
होगी.

फिल्म ‘छोटू २ कटिंग’ के निर्माता-निर्देशक डॉ. तरुण बेंकर बताते है की : “रीमा
दास की असामी फिल्म ‘विलेज रोकस्टार’ २०१९ के ओस्कर एवोर्ड के लिए Best foreign film केटेगरी में भारत की official
entry होगी
यह सुनकर मैं बहोत खुश हूँ. रीमा का यह सर्जनात्मक साहस Independent
फिल्ममेकर के लिए प्रेरणास्त्रोत
साबित होगा.”
फिल्म फेडरेशन ऑफ इंडिया ने इसकी आधिकारिक घोषणा अनुसार फिल्म ‘विलेज
रॉकस्टार’ 2019 के लिए ओस्कर की दौड़ मैं भारत की ऑफीशियल एंट्री होगी। 65वें
राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार 2018 में 'विलेज रॉकस्टार्स' को
बेस्टर फीचर फिल्म के एवोर्ड मिल चुका है। इससे पहले वर्ष 1987 में जाहनु बरुआ की 'हलोधिया
चोरये बोधन खई' ने यह पुरस्कार जीता था। रीमा ने 'विलेज
रॉकस्टार्स' के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ संपादन का पुरस्कार भी जीता
है। इस फिल्म ने भनिता दास को सर्वश्रेष्ठ बाल कलाकार और लोकेशन साउंड रिकॉर्डिस्ट
मल्लिका दास को मिलाकर चार राष्ट्रिय पुरस्कार मिले है.
गुवाहाटी के निकट रीमा के अपने छायागांव में निर्मित 'विलेज
रॉकस्टार्स' गरीब बच्चों की अद्भुत कहानी है, जो
मजेदार जीवन का मज़ा उठाते हैं। फिल्म का एक रॉक बैंड के रूप में बच्चों के साथ
आगाज होता है। इसे बहुत ही मजाकिया अंदाज में पेश किया गया है।‘विलेज
रॉकस्टार’ 10 वर्षीय धुनू की कहानी है जिसकी देखरेख उसकी
विधवा मां करती है। गरीबी के कारण धुनू का पालन-पोषण करना और प्राकृतिक आपदाओं का सामना
करना उन्हें एक सशक्त शख्सियतवाली महिला के रूप में प्रस्तुत
करता है. दृढ़ता, समझौता न करने की प्रवृत्ति उन्हें मजबूत बनाती
है। रीमा दास ‘विलेज रॉकस्टार’ के जरिए अपनी जड़ों से जुडी
है.

Mumbai-based filmmaker does not have any formal training in film-making.
“Before going to Mumbai, I was more interested in acting. Even I did acting in
my first feature film. It was, by chance, that I became a filmmaker,” says
Rima. She is being modest because she has done almost everything single
handedly in Village Rockstars – direction, screenwriting, cinematography,
editing and production design. In the realm of Assamese cinema, Village
Rockstars has emerged as the most travelled film across the globe in
prestigious film festivals. In 2009, she made a short film Pratha, and then
came her first feature film Man With The Binoculars (Antardrishti) in 2016. Her
first film was about the life of a retired geography teacher (played by Bishnu
Kharghoria), and it captured the transformation in his perspective and ideology
after he gets a pair of binoculars as a gift from his son.
Set in the remote village of Chhayagaon in
Assam, Village Rockstars is about a little village girl named Dhunu who dreams
to have a real guitar and forms a music band with her friends – Manabendra,
(her elder brother), Rinku, Boloram, Bishnu and Bhaskar – in the village. The
band members lead a carefree life, climbs up the trees, go for fishing and walk
together to school. The film narrates the day to day struggles of common
villagers and the way they deal with poverty and natural disasters. In the
film, Dhunu’s family that consists of her widowed mother Basanti and her elder
brother Manabendra, represents the life of the villagers.
It also addresses the issue of gender
disparity. The representation of women in the film is not stridently feminist.
Instead the suggestion of feminine power is carefully imbued into the
narrative. Rima’s struggle in Mumbai reflects through the character of Dhunu.
“Dhunu is a part of me – my struggle, my dreams, my desires,” says the
filmmaker. She paves her own paths in the face of various antagonistic forces.
Even the self assertion represented by Dhunu stands as a textual or artistic
parallel to Rima's determination to make the film. Dhunu’s determination to
have a real guitar; her act of making a guitar from styrofoam and her mother’s
promise, in spite of their perpetual state of poverty, to buy a guitar by
selling their goat, are suggestive of the deconstruction of the stereotyped
images of woman as vulnerable and dependent.”
Rima Das is an Indian filmmaker best known
for her film, Village Rockstars (2017) which won several National and
international awards. She won India's National Best Film and Best Editor
Awards, announced on 13 April 2018 by Government of India appointed jury headed
by filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor.

रोकस्टार’ ने चार राष्ट्रिय पुरस्कारों के साथ कुल ४४ एवोर्ड जीतकर main stream cinema बनानेवालों को यह बताया है की real cinema क्या होता है. और
उअसके लिए पैसा, पावर या बड़ा infrastructure नहीं, बल्कि बड़ा जिगर और passion चाहिए.
